A powerful story of service, sacrifice, and the families who carry the legacy forward. This film looks beyond the battlefield to the lives forever changed by loss—and the organizations that support them. Through intimate storytelling, it honors the fallen by giving voice to those who carry their memory forward.

The Promise of Friendship

Two best friends went to war. Only one made it home. Years later, he returned to the place he had already survived—determined to find his friend and bring him home.

Nation’s Promise recounts two wartime best friends bound by the soldier’s creed: no one left behind. When one was lost, the other came home carrying that truth; years later, he returned to find, recover, and bring his friend home. The film explores that choice and the cost of promises in war left unmet.

The Promise to the Families

There is also a promise made by the United States to every service member and their families. If someone is lost in war, they will be accounted for. They will be found. They will be brought home. No matter how long it takes.

This commitment is the foundation of POW/MIA recovery efforts and continues long after conflicts end. For families of the missing, it represents an ongoing responsibility—not just a policy, but a promise that their loved ones will not be forgotten.

The Promise of the Filmmakers

This film was made with a clear responsibility—to tell this story truthfully and to honor the men at the center of it. Not to dramatize it. Not to reshape it. But to present it as it was shared by the people who lived it.

Producer Paul Zagaris grew up around Vietnam veterans and saw firsthand how rarely these stories were told publicly. Building this film required years of trust and direct conversations with those who were there, many of whom had never spoken openly about their experiences.
